Tile Reports
ASSISTANCE FOR POOR OR FAILING TILE INSTALLATIONS
Help When Things Go Wrong…
TANZ provides a comprehensive Tiling Inspection Report service to address issues that may arise during tile installations.
Our service offers an unbiased, expert opinion based on New Zealand/Australian tiling standards, the BRANZ Good Practice Guide: Tiling, and the New Zealand MBIE Guide to Tolerances.
Whether the tiler is a TANZ member or not, the report is based on factual evidence and is designed to guide both parties toward a resolution, ensuring clarity on the steps needed to reach a satisfactory conclusion.
The report can also confirm whether an installation meets acceptable or poor standards, giving tilers the independent support they need to resolve disputes.
Tiling Inspection Reports start at $1,840 for members and $2,400 for non-members, with travel costs additional.
Investigation Work
TANZ provides comprehensive tiling investigation services, where an affiliated member, appointed by TANZ, conducts a thorough investigation into failed or failing installations and specifications. This service aims to uncover the causes of failure and identify liabilities.
With the growing influx of new products and systems entering the New Zealand market, not all products undergo adequate testing or receive sufficient manufacturer support. This lack of validation has led to tiling failures, leaving property owners or tilers to handle the consequences.
TANZ’s most experienced members are well-versed in these types of failures and have successfully presented evidence in the New Zealand High Courts as defendants.
Our investigation services can also help assess risks before proceeding with legal action.

Installation Oversight
TANZ’s specialized affiliated members offer a valuable service for documenting tile installations on large projects, high-end remedial works, and renovations. As industry experts, these members thoroughly review the installation specifications and meticulously record the entire process from start to finish, ensuring all critical aspects are noted.
They ensure that both the tiling and waterproofing (if applicable) follow best practice construction methods, providing assurance that the installation meets the highest standards.

Expert Witness
TANZ’s specialized affiliated members provide expert witness services for legal matters, ensuring that all information presented is based on factual, documented evidence rather than mere opinion. This approach offers a clear understanding of the issues that require resolution.
Key factors such as tile installation practices, product specifications, building design, installation sequencing, and timelines are thoroughly researched and addressed before any dispute resolution forum.
Our specialized members have successfully undertaken this work in Disputes Courts and the High Court of New Zealand.
